Clash Royale is a real-time strategy game that was released by Supercell, the creators of one of the most popular mobile games in the world, Clash of Clans. The object of this game is to defend your base during one-on-one combat against a live enemy, unlike the battle style found in Clash of Clans, which has the player attack a static village in order to steal loot. This game is the first spin-off from the Clash of Clans universe, but if this series continues to be popular, it may not be the last.

Those who are familiar with Clash of Clans will have trouble picking up this title and jumping right in. Players must destroy an enemy's city by using troops, defense, and heroes to do damage while defending against the enemy's own offenses. Many of the most popular and recognizable troops from Clash of Clans have been brought over to this game, but there are a few new surprises as well.

Clash Royale is quite a bit simpler than its predecessor, and that simplicity is due to the fact that players don't have to build or expand a base. Every game action is involved in either attacking or defending. The game is still fairly addictive since it focuses on pure action, and there is a strong strategy element as well. Failure or success hinges on how well you place your troops so they will target the correct enemy entity first, whether it be a turret or enemy troop. To win a battle, players must destroy the central turret that houses the Barbarian King. Other turrets are used to release devastating special attacks.

Just like Clash of Clans, there is a waiting element to the game that can be subverted using real-world currency, but most players can avoid those purchases with simple patience. The main resource in this game is Elixir, and players must use their Elixir to deploy their troops. Elixir recharges naturally over time, so players will have to wait in between attacks.

One of the most appealing aspects of this game is that the micro-transactions are kept relatively under the radar. Most games are constantly pestering the player to make purchases, but not Clash Royale. Players are never asked to make purchases during combat, so the only need for them is to get to the next battle faster. It is possible to unlock other rewards with the gems early, but all those rewards are possible to earn without gems as well.

As the player wins more battles, levels up their characters, and unlocks new troops, they will deal with more difficult battles against enemies who have also improved their bases. The game has a steady pace that never really gets old, and there is something new at every level to keep the player interested.

Clash Royale uses the same cartoonish style and smooth graphics that Clash of Clans became famous for, and it is quite easy to see why those who play one game would find the other just as fun.

Pros

  • Intuitive Game Mechanics
  • Decent Elixir System
  • Beautiful Graphics
  • Non-Essential In-App Purchases

Cons

  • Slow Matchmaking

This strategy game is a smaller version of Clash of Clans.

Clash of Clans is the tremendously popular multiplayer, competitive strategy game developed by Supercell. Clash Royale is another Supercell creation, available as a free app for Android devices and free to play.

The object of this game is to defend your fort against invaders. Unlike Clash of Clans, you don't have to worry about city building. Your focus is solely on defending your already-built fort and, of course, decimating enemy forts.

Earn the in-game currency of Elixir and use it outside of combat to unlock rewards for your character.

Compete in battles to defend the fort that you have created.

In the game, you can create cities with people who will work and defend your world. There's no need to expand your land as you have to worry about defeating the opponent more than owning the most property in the game.

Pros

  • Fun fighting action
  • Strategy involved
  • Play at any time because of short duels

Cons

  • Opponents might not be real
  • Unmatched skill levels

Play as your favorite Clash of Clan character in this battling game.

This is a game that is similar to what you might see with checkers or chess. While there is a bit more strategy involved and the game is set up a little differently, you have opposing sides fighting each other to try to gain control of the game. In Clash Royale, The duels can get very heated with the characters wanting to take over the land.

There are three towers at first in Clash Royale. Your goal is to use the troops that you have to take down the opposing towers, especially the one in the center. You also have to make sure your own towers are protected. It's best to position most of your troops around the center tower instead of focusing on the outer ones. There is a time limit of three minutes for each battle. You'll find that there are a few fun characteristics of the game to make it a bit easier to advance in the levels, such as increased deployment time and increased speed. You can upgrade your troops after collecting cards.

Pros

  • Fun fighting action
  • Strategy involved
  • Play at any time because of short duels

Cons

  • Opponents might not be real
  • Unmatched skill levels

Pros

  • Excellent graphics akin to original Clash of Clans
  • Fast-paced, real-time gameplay
  • Free to play

Cons

  • In-game purchases to tempt players to spend money
  • Overly simplified for high level players

Based in the same universe as the hugely popular mobile game known as Clash of Clans, Clash Royale is a totally different take on battling opponents. It is a real-time strategy game that employs the same troops and defenses from Clash of Clans, including the popular Barbarian King, Archers, Giants, and more.

This game is a little more straightforward and slightly more basic than Clash of Clans, which requires training intricate armies in order to destroy the enemies fortified village. Clash Royale removes the intricacies and makes the battles two-way, which means both opponents will be playing simultaneously. It is a basic tower defense game in which each player receives two towers to use as defense and one as a central tower. Destroying the central tower will give victory to the destroyer.

The bouts only last three minutes at the most, unless there is no decision, in which case extra time will be added to decide the winner. Players are only given access to a small selection of available troops at first, but others will unlock as the player progresses by collecting cards. When a player wins a tournament, they receive a chest that contains these cards.

Much like the original Clash of Clans, troops in Clash Royale have stats that allow them to perform differently during battle. Some might have higher hit-points, while others might be able to attack from farther away. As the player progresses, the attributes can be improved along with the level of the player. This gives the player the ability to fully customize their army.

Pros

  • Excellent graphics akin to original Clash of Clans
  • Fast-paced, real-time gameplay
  • Free to play

Cons

  • In-game purchases to tempt players to spend money
  • Overly simplified for high level players
